My name is Julie R. Neidlinger. The name of my business is Lone Prairie Art Works, which I have had since 1998.
I grew up on a farm not far from the Canadian border. My family owns a Minuteman missile site. Though I now live in Bismarck, North Dakota, I am a farm girl at heart. I am a writer, artist, and private pilot. I've also been a pastry chef, school teacher, piano teacher, graphic designer, short-order cook, house cleaner, nanny, t-shirt designer, postal worker, newspaper photographer and reporter, secretary, investigator for a PI, copywriter, and virtual assistant/receptionist. I have been writing on my own website since 2000, and "officially" blogging since 2002. |

I was a church pianist for about eight years. I also play the clarinet, violin, and pennywhistle.
I helped my uncle in his welding / wrought iron shop for a week and learned that you can get a sunburn from welding, a plasma torch can cut through the work bench, and when you get done with something, you slap it and say "good enough for government work" and go have a candy bar break.
I worked with an international non-profit organization, Nicaragua Resource Network - North Dakota, as the communications specialist and webmaster for five years. Though I no longer travel on trips, I did spend eight years with Nicaragua as a particular focus, and made many Nica friends.
I got my private pilot's license in 2008, and joined the Civil Air Patrol in 2009. I've been a member of the North Dakota Pilots Association (NDPA) since 2009, as secretary in 2011 and Vice President in 2012. I was also a member of the North Dakota Aviation Council (NDAC) as one of two representatives of NDPA for 2011-2014.
I love to travel, and have been to Canada, Germany, (then) Czechoslovakia, Switzerland, Nicaragua, Australia, Chile, Argentina, Uruguay, and the Caribbean, as well as all over the United States. But North Dakota is always home.
I once owned Lone Prairie Cupcakes, a gourmet cupcake and confectionery business, from 2009 to 2011, until I realized I wanted all cupcakes to die. During that time, I was also a pastry chef in Bismarck from 2008 to 2011. I still like to make incredibly unhealthy foods.
I am very introverted. I probably don't want to meet you. Don't take it personally.
The Lone Prairie Blog is one of the (if not the actual) oldest blogs in North Dakota. It started as a static HTML page for each blog post in late 1999.

I am various social platforms without great enthusiasm. The remnants of me trying out new platforms can be found like shrapnel all over the web. If it exists, I probably signed up and tried it and hated it and either set it to private, deleted it, let it hibernate, or turned off all notifications and use it as a bookmarking service.
For the most part, I use private Telegram groups to communicate with family and close friends and that's it. I go on my LinkedIn profile about four times a year, or if I remember to share a blog post. I have mostly retreated to paper books that have no comments sections.
Some accounts have paid access. Some are free. Some accounts are set to private, and others only allow you to follow without comment or chat. Some I just abandoned. Some I deleted. That's how it is. This website is, and has always been, command central.

- I use Substack for my blog, with free and paid options. There are also Notes and comments there. Substack, with its longer articles (blog posts) and Twitter-like Notes feature, is my main place for content aside from this blog.
- Lone Prairie is on Telegram simply to update whenever a new blog post is published.
- I have a Locals account, connected to Rumble, should the need arise for a platform that won't censor, and I feel the inclination to use what those systems offer.
- I have Patreon for those who prefer to support my work that way, instead of Substack. I'm not keen on Patreon for a variety of reasons, and may pull the plug. Not much content is posted there; it is simply for those who prefer to support artists and writers through that platform's payment system.
- Have a paper mail newsletter that I used in 2021, did nothing in 2022, and still thinking about 2023. But it's free, so there's that.
