Despite what you may have heard, I was sober.

written by Julie R. Neidlinger      0 comments      link this post

I said I'd put it online, and I did.

The last night in Managua was a bit hazy due not to ALCOHOL, but because Bonnie had given me a couple of Benadryl (or whatever) for my itchy legs which were covered in massive amounts of bizarre bug bites.

"It might make you a little drowsy," she'd said.

Yes, that, and completely confused. Under the influence of Benadryl I think I said something meaningless to Shannon during our prayer partner/gift exchange, and mumbled a prayer that I can only shudder at. I don't know what I said.

This is a video of me showing Chad how to operate my camera, shortly before I collapsed into a drooling sleep on my bed. He would use it the following morning to shoot a video of Alfredo singing. I would be sleeping since my flight was leaving later, so I was entrusting the camera to him.

Granted, I may have been a little excessive in my directions.

"First, release the velcro closure on the case. Then, carefully extract the camera. Gently remove the lens cap..."

I have a vague memory of it, though I do know my legs did not itch. I also recall ignoring Chad's obvious snideness AND DISRESPECT FOR THE INFIRM and continuing on with detailed advice for using the camera, such as suggesting it be directionally pointed at the subject.

Last moments at La Quinta

written by Julie R. Neidlinger      0 comments      link this post

It's always difficult for me to go, and this is a kind of bittersweet clip of the group sitting in the rocking chairs on the porch at La Quinta, just a short while before we left Nicaragua. The end was near.

Teresa sings with the Mariachi band.

The girl I sponsor, Teresa, sang a few songs with the Mariachi band. Her father, brother and grandfather are all in the band, playing the stringed instruments.

Mariachi band at La Quinta.

written by Julie R. Neidlinger      0 comments      link this post

A mariachi band surprised us the last night in Nicaragua, just before going to bed at La Quinta in Managua. This is the third time I've heard the band, although the singer was new this year. As always, you can't miss hearing the loud trumpets in the small, indoor room.

Hogar de Fe: Student's Friday service, part 1.

written by Julie R. Neidlinger      0 comments      link this post

Just before we left Hogar de Fe, we were able to visit the final service of the week where the very enthusiastic students were singing. It was almost like a pep rally, something to keep them going through the weekend until next week.

Hogar de Fe: Antonio translates for us.

written by Julie R. Neidlinger      0 comments      link this post

This clip shows the group I was with on a recent missions trip to Nicaragua listening as Antonio, our translator, helps Pastor Ramiro tell us about the exciting revival happening there. We are sitting in one of my favortie places, a shady arbor with a solid concrete table and benches.

Flora learns a new worship song.

written by Julie R. Neidlinger      0 comments      link this post

On a recent missions trip to Nicaragua, some in our group had the opportunity to teach Flora, one of the Nicaraguan Pastor's daughters, some new songs. She was an eager learner and had already surprised us earlier in the week by singing in English during one of the services. This clip shows here singing to Shannon, using the Spanish words that Claudia had just finished translating for her. She's doing a great job.

Leon, Nicaragua: The Great Cathedral

written by Julie R. Neidlinger      0 comments      link this post

This is a short clip I took with my small digital camera while standing in front of the great cathedral in Leon, Nicaragua. It's the largest one in Central and South America, or something like that, originally intended for another place in South America with a mistake causing it to be built in Leon. You can read more about it here.

The clip, albeit small and grainy, shows the plaza in front of the cathedral and swings around towards the direction of the restaurant the missions group I was with ate at during our stay, Italian Pizza.
