We don't want to be responsible for a buzz kill, but there
are some rules guests of The Homestead will need to follow so that they
may continue their stay, be welcome back, and not be asked to leave. These
rules are also for the safety and concern of all guests.
Be sure to read our disclaimer
so that you are aware of your own liability. | |
|
| Buildings: Guests are only allowed in the
actual house that serves as The Homestead. There are many other farm
buildings around, but guests are not to go into these buildings unless they
have received permission. Doing so without permission will be grounds for
dismissal. These buildings include, but are not limited to:
- barns
- quonsets
- shops
- machinery sheds
- pastures
|
|
| Pets: Pets may be allowed, depending on what
they are, how many, and how long you will be staying. Please contact us to
be sure your pets will be allowed. During hunting season (October), hunters
are allowed to bring their hunting dogs. These dogs, however, are not
allowed in the house. We've had problems with muddy dogs on furniture and
sleeping in beds. Please keep your dog kenneled or tied up, or under some
kind of control at all times when not hunting. |
|
| Smoking, drinking, drugs: There is to be no
smoking inside The Homestead. No illegal drugs of any kind are allowed
inside the house or anywhere on our property. You may bring your own alcohol
as you see fit, but if partying, destruction of property or noise become a
problem stemming from alcohol use, you will be asked to leave immediately. |
|
| Fire and fireworks: Please ask permission before starting
any fires. We do have a small grill that can be used on the deck, and we do
have an area in our backyard set aside for bonfires. However, you may prefer
to have a bonfire closer to you. In that case, please ask permission and
allow us to direct you to where we would prefer you to build your bonfire.
Fireworks are allowed in North Dakota during certain times. Please ask us
before you ignite fireworks. There may be dry conditions that you are not
aware of. Guests are responsible for their own safety when using their
fireworks. |
|
| Damage and theft: Guests are financially
responsible to damage to property through abuse and careless use. Obviously,
theft of dishes, towels, furniture, books, etc. is highly frowned upon, as
is theft of items of other guests staying in the house. Evidence of theft is
grounds for immediate dismissal, and you will not be allowed back to The
Homestead. However, The Homestead is not responsible for the safekeeping of
guest's items so it is up to each guest to store their items accordingly. We
do not have lockers or safes available, although if you have a particular
concern over a certain item we may be able to work something out. Please
contact us if this is the case. |
|
| Housekeeping: We don't run a maid or cooking
service. We are the maids. Although we provide bedding, you are responsible
for keeping it and your own personal laundry clean. We do have a washer and
dryer available for free use. Guests are also responsible for keeping the
house neat and clean while they stay there. We do wash up sheets and clean
house after an entire group has left, but while you stay in The Homestead,
particularly for guests with longer stays, you'll have to think of it as
keeping your own home clean. Guests are responsible for their own food and
meals. |
|
| Environmental and wildlife concerns: Please
do not litter, destroy, abuse or in any other way cause harm to the natural
environment. If you take a hike or are out hunting, please carry your
garbage home with you. We burn our garbage here, but we do separate out
glass and other recyclables. Please separate your garbage into the
appropriate bins available in The Homestead. Do not approach or feed wild
animals for obvious health and safety reasons. Please stay away from skunks.
It seems stupid to mention, but you'd be surprised. They can spray from 12
feet away, and you won't be able to get rid of the smell. Really. Please do
not take local flora or fauna home with you for environmental and
agricultural safety reasons. |
