Additional lodging available.

We have had our second house open up just in time for duck hunting season, 2006. If you are looking for a place to stay and hunt, there's a very good chance we not only have openings, but premium openings (early in the month). Please contact us immediately if you are in need of lodging before the extra house is booked up for October.

The water situation.

A concern for duck hunters, which we've been asked a few times by phone and email, is in regards to the water situation with the summer of drought.

Though this year has been dry, particularly in the months of June and July, there are still sloughs with ducks. Some of the sloughs that were of the shallow variety have, indeed, dried up, but there are still many with adequate water. In general, the sloughs are about 12 inches lower though the month of August has been bringing good rain.

If you are concerned, please feel free to contact us or contact the ND Game and Fish department to inquire about the duck population. As far as I can tell, the duck population seems to be about the same as usual.

Deer season opens today.

The opening day of deer hunting season is upon us, and while I'm not a hunter myself, I hope all hunters are successful. It's just too hard to miss the deer while driving. And I'm running out of tarps to cover the bushes and plants around the house. Heh.

Though the beginning of October opened with a bang, bringing the first blizzard to the state, the rest of the month was relatively mild and pleasant. Yesterday brought a thick, wet snowfall, though it's anyone's guess as to how long it will stay. The word is that this year will be a mild winter.

And I've just wasted five minutes telling you about the weather. It can't be helped. That's what we talk about here. Unfortunately.

Duck hunting 2005

Duck hunting season seems to be going well for our hunters, although an early winter storm on October 6 made us wonder what the month would bring. The last group of hunters is scheduled to be done on October 22, wrapping another year of hunting. For those of you hunters out there, whether you stayed here or not, how'd this year turn out for you?
