NEW ART: I've uploaded some "new" art (older pieces that I've not had online before). You can see them in the July archives.

Car: Hot Rod

written by Julie R. Neidlinger      0 comments      link this post

A local hot rod show, called Devils Run, brings plenty of amazing cars to the region.

One year I photographed and then painted a number of the vehicles that I liked the best.

In my first effort at a cold sell, I approached the man who organizes the show, showed him my paintings, and asked if he was interested in any of them.

He wasn't. It was a pretty bad moment. It turns out that car enthusiasts want photo realistic art of their vehicles instead of my style. Still, I think they're pretty darn good paintings

Materials: Acrylic and water crayon on paper
Size: 22" X 30"
Other: Shipped without frame or mat
Price: $50

Labels: ,

In my first effort at a cold sell, I approached the man who organizes the show, showed him my paintings, and asked if he was interested in any of them.

He wasn't. It was a pretty bad moment for me. It turns out that car enthusiasts want photo realistic art of their vehicles instead of my style. This image, this row of cars, were all owned by this man and I painted them as they were lined up. I figured it made a pretty powerful statement and wanted to incorporate a sense that the cars were flamed and were throwing off flames. I painted it with the hopes of him possibly being interested in the painting. Alas, no go. Still, I think it's a pretty darn good painting, whether the owner thought so or not.

Materials: Acrylic on BFK Rives paper
Size: 22" X 30"
Other: Shipped without frame or mat
Price: $100

He wasn't. It was a pretty bad moment. It turns out that car enthusiasts want photo realistic art of their vehicles instead of my style. This car, in fact, is one of the many that he customized and owned. I painted it with the hopes of him buying it. Still, I think it's a pretty darn good painting, whether the owner thought so or not.
