Purse: The Green Cat.
written by Julie R. Neidlinger 1 comments link this post
This purse has a story to tell. At least, that's how it appears. What's going on with the green cat?
Front: The front of the purse shows off the vintage necktie I've used for both the closure strap (velcro closure) and the purse strap. Two signature Lone Prairie cartoon characters (one with a velvet tie, both with cotton flannel suits) seem to be having some kind of interaction over a green cat. [view front of purse]. The shirt of the fellow with the cat is made from a small piece of antique fabric my grandmother had made into a dress. The stitching has been used as it's own art line work. [view front detail]
Back: The back of the purse [view back of purse] shows the green cat, this time in his own suit. [view detail of back] There are subtle hearts sewn into the fabric, too. The cat's mouth is a pocket, and could house your cell phone.
Inside: The inside of the purse is lined with an antique pink cotton, making use of the frayed ribbon edge and combining it with a dark peach-colored strip of cotton facing. There's a long pocket, divided in two, that covers one side of the interior. [view inside] The lining was hand-sewn into the purse to ensure a snug and tidy fit.
Detailing: The side of the purse has a long pocket, perfect for pens or a cell phone. [view side pocket]
This purse is completely unique, made without a pattern, never to be exactly recreated in either fabric or stitching. Its characters are the unique Lone Prairie characters found only here. It is fully hand-made. By me.
Materials: Fleece, cotton, satin-like material, linen, necktie.
Size: roughly 10" high, 12" wide, 3" deep
Other: Spot wash. Do not machine wash.
Price: SOLD

Neglectable Pets: VetTech 2 and the Spotted Kitty.
written by Julie R. Neidlinger 1 comments link this post
VetTech 2 has a lot in common with the first VetTech Neglectable Pet.
Mainly, it's pain.
This toy was made by request, and is "baby-proofed." That is, it has no beans inside, and not decorative detail that would be harmful. It's a low maintenance washable bundle of painful fun.

Purse: The Unsuited Suit.
written by Julie R. Neidlinger 0 comments link this post
This soft and fun purse is made out of fleece fabric with satin and grosgrain ribbon accents. There's a little bit of linen in the eyes, as well as satin ribbon and glass beading accents. Top stitching and decorative edging abound, both inside and out. Vintage cotton cloth and hand-embroidered accents round out the whole package. [view the front of the purse | view the back of the purse]
This is Unsuited Suit, a character so named for business attire that lacks a suit coat. The Unsuited Suit may not be suited for the office; clearly, it wants to be outside with the pink trees and blossoms. Despite its proclivities towards being away from the office, it still will do work for you. You could put your cell phone in its mouth pocket and perhaps your voice mail will be handled automatically. You can certainly carry a lot in this purse.
Purse strap: Rough and unfinished edges along with free-form sewing give the purse strap strength as well as a unique appearance. The handle is connected to the purse with double-sewn fleece "O rings", giving the purse a bit of bounce and keeping it free from any metal whatsoever. The closure is velcro. [view the purse strap]
Inside: The inside of the purse is lined with cotton in varying shades of gray, as well as patterned fabric and ribbon accents. [view inside the purse | view pocket lining inside of purse]
This purse is completely unique, made without a pattern, never to be exactly recreated in either fabric or stitching. It is fully hand-made. By me.
Materials: Fleece, cotton, satin and grosgrain ribbon, polyester stuffing, glass beads, linen.
Size: roughly 13" high, 11" wide, 3" deep; Shoulder strap 15" from shoulder to purse
Other: Spot wash, avoiding satin ribbon if possible.
Price: $45
Availability: SOLD
Labels: plushies, purse, whimsical

Neglectable Pets: VetTech
written by Julie R. Neidlinger 0 comments link this post
VetTech probably enjoyed her job more when the wild tabby cats weren't sinking claws into her head.
No lie: this neglectable pet is based on a real story.
It's the sad story of a vet tech trying to do her best and finding that there are some crazy critters that just don't want to be helped.
Crazy critters that leap to the top of the head and latch on and go berserk.

All pets are made one at a time by myself, making use of two decades worth of my mother's fabric and notion scraps. Each has a mouth that is a fully functional pocket for you to hide valuable stuff. Neglectable Pets: PinkEye
written by Julie R. Neidlinger 0 comments link this post
PinkEye has just that.
Despite her impressive grades and Master's degreen in early childhood education, she has great difficulty find any work in her chosen field.
After all, who wants their kid around someone with pink eye?.
It's too bad, that chronic pink eye. She's really very nice, actually. The nice thing about it is that if anyone wants to keep manhandling your neglectable pet, you can simply say "Don't touch! She has pink eye!"

Neglectable Pets: Hoover.
written by Julie R. Neidlinger 3 comments link this post
Hoover has spent too much time with his face to the sewing room floor.
He's stuffed. With more than just stuffing.
He made a pig of himself on scraps of cloth, ribbon and thread. And he has the clear conscience (and heart) to not try to hide it.
He also has a crazy hair issue. All that time eating off of the carpet has raised a few gnarly static issues.

Neglectable Pets: Scotch the Bruiser.
written by Julie R. Neidlinger 0 comments link this post
Scotch the Bruiser has seen a few fights. He's normally a pale-colored cat. He takes his punches, and bruises, with great aplomb.
He's Scotch, and not just because he refuses to pay for anything. He has a heart of plaid that matches his puffy lower lip.
He also has a weirdly-haired back, but if you try to talk to him about it, he'll end up taking on more bruises.

Purse: Stripe the First
written by Julie R. Neidlinger 0 comments link this post
This soft and fun purse is made out of fleece fabric with satin and grosgrain ribbon accents. There's a little bit of linen in the eyes, too.
This is Stripe, so named for the stripe down his back, which is, of course, seen on the back of the purse.
Free-form sewing on the handle, Stripe, and body of the purse make contrasting and matching thread serve as more than mere construction, but much the same way lines in a drawing sketch out a subject.
Stripe's mouth is perfect for holding a cell phone or pack of tissues. Stripe's front is lightly padded to give his body a little...body. His lower lip is matching satin ribbon hand-stitched in place. The inside of the purse is lined with red cotton and has a double-layer open pocket attached to the back wall of the interior.
This purse is completely unique, made without a pattern, never to be exactly recreated in either fabric or stitching. It is fully hand-made. By me.

Envy, the Green Monster.
written by Julie R. Neidlinger 0 comments link this post
This little green monster could be the embodiment of Envy. Or maybe he's just a green monster.
He has double button eyes (old, recycled buttons) which are all the better to see you with, and a blanket-stitched mouth bring filled with ferocious teeth that make sticking your hand in his mouth a risk you'll have to take on your own.
The mouth is a small pocket, a great place to hide stuff you want guarded by this monster. He has stripes and spots down his back, and ever-so-faint yellow rick-rack claws on his bottom feet.

Materials: Fleece, cotton, buttons, polyester stuffing.
Size: About 8" tall and 6" wide
Other: Completely washable, easy to care for. Not safe for children under six because of the button eyes.
Price: $20

Stripes the Cat.
written by Julie R. Neidlinger 0 comments link this post
Based on the "brutus" cat pattern inspired by my own cat, Brutus, this cat has stripes on his back. Hence, the name.
Double button eyes (old, recycled buttons) and a blanket-stitched mouth bring filled with ferocious rick-rack teeth give him character. Or attitude. He's lightly stuffed, very squishy, and fun to throw around. Plus, you can hide all kinds of stuff in his mouth; it's a pink pocket that goes down inside of this hungry cat.

Materials: Fleece, buttons, polyester stuffing.
Size: About 9" tall and 8" wide
Other: Completely washable, easy to care for. Unlike the real Brutus. Not safe for children under six because of the button eyes.

Cave Cat
written by Julie R. Neidlinger 0 comments link this post
Based on the "brutus" cat pattern, this cat is actually kind of sick. He's a cave cat, wearing clothes made out of..."cat."
Double button eyes and a whip-stitched mouth bring out his expression of stupidity. He's lightly stuffed, very squishy, and fun to throw around. Plus, you can hide all kinds of stuff in his mouth; it's a pink pocket that goes down inside of this cave cat.

Traveling Gullivers
written by Julie R. Neidlinger 1 comments link this post
His name is Gulliver, and he travels. He travels wherever you take him.
This unique plush character has a function beyond looking ugly-cute: it holds stuff. And he's cute, of course. He makes a great toy for kids*, purse, novelty item, and travel ID holder for around your neck.
Gulliver comes in two sizes, small and large. The large Gulliver (shown to the left) has an additional pouch in the back for holding larger items.
Gulliver also comes with a few options.
You can add the front vinyl pocket for your ID or leave it off (image here).
You can have Gulliver with or without "lips."
You can give Gulliver a set of rick-rack "teeth."
Gulliver has looped-ribbon ears that allow you to attach a lanyard to him (Gulliver does not come with a lanyard) and hang him around your neck when traveling, keeping your ID close at hand. The loops can also be used to attach him to other things by other means, or they can just remain as his "ears." Gulliver's mouth can hold credit cards, cash and an ID. His eyes are old, recycled buttons and all embroidery is done by hand, the old fashioned way.
All Gullivers are hand-made for each order, unique from each other, and come with a "birthmark" that lets you know you have a real Gulliver in your possession. All Gullivers are washable except those with the vinyl pocket on the front. Gulliver comes in all kinds of colors** and fabrics, including fleece, knits, and flannel.
1. Small Gulliver (no back pocket)
Price: NO LONGER AVAILABLE
2. Large Gulliver (back pocket, longer body)
Price: NO LONGER AVAILABLE
*Not suitable for children under 6. Gulliver has button eyes and these pose a danger for young children.
**Please allow me to choose fabrics, colors, prints and buttons. Feel free to include color choices in the comments section of the online shopping cart. I will do my best to accommodate you with the supplies I have in stock; there are no color/print guarantees. Please do not request extra detailing or specifications than is shown in photos or listed as available; email me with your request and I will adjust the total price accordingly.
