Noah.

This is a commissioned portrait of a dog. The background uses a lot of gold and metallic paint, particularly in the under-painting stage, which doesn't really show well in this image.

You can read more about this little fellow here.

Emmet and Jenny.

This was a commissioned piece based on a few photographs and a request to put them together to show the small child and the dog looking out across the yard.

Obviously, the dog was not actually blue, but the client requested certain color elements and favored the bright, broad-stroked style of some of my other dog portraits.

Cody and Elmo.

written by Julie R. Neidlinger      0 comments      link this post

My nephew Cody (who is now much, much older than he was when I drew this image) loved Elmo. This image is based on a photograph.

For his fourth birthday, I bought him a huge Elmo. My sister was worried that he'd be a bit frightened when he pulled the monstrous red thing from the box, but, as you see, he wasn't.

This image is a good example of what my take on commissioned work would look like.

Dog Portrait 1

written by Julie R. Neidlinger      0 comments      link this post

This is one of many dog portraits I've done over the years. I found this one more fun than most because the photos and images I was provided to work from showed a very lively dog. It was easy to give him personality and spunk through both the general layout and color choices. This painting now has a home somehwere in England.

Stubbins

written by Julie R. Neidlinger      0 comments      link this post

My sister works at a vet clinic and so I often find myself doing animal portraits for clients and friends.

This portrait was of a cat named Stubbins who, though missing a tail, had one of the cutest faces I'd seen.

Cats are difficult for me to draw, though, because they don't always have the clearly delineated shape of other animals. They're soft and fuzzy and often end up looking like visual blobs if I'm not careful to really observe and understand the anatomy beneath all the fluff.

I've done many greyhound paintings, depicting them in their various well-known positions.

As always, I like to use a lot of color. This particular painting was a commissioned portrait.
