Emmet and Jenny.

This was a commissioned piece based on a few photographs and a request to put them together to show the small child and the dog looking out across the yard.
Obviously, the dog was not actually blue, but the client requested certain color elements and favored the bright, broad-stroked style of some of my other dog portraits.

Horse Statue

It is one of my favorite paintings, a strange few hours where I somehow saw the statue in brushstrokes and colliding colors.

Purse: Pug dog.
written by Julie R. Neidlinger 1 comments link this post
I made this purse for a friend (for Christmas 2007) who has a pug dog, which she loves. My friend and I both love interesting purses, and I wanted to make her something that she would enjoy. This was one of those great gifting moments where, as I sewed the top stitching, or maybe hand sewed the eyes or trim, I smiled. I kept imagining how my friend might like the gift, and how much fun it was to make something for someone. (This truly is a great example of why we should all be doing this.)
This purse is truly unique; I had no pattern, and made up the design as I went along. The pug dog was made on the fly, with top stitching used as line work, as if in a drawing, to depict wrinkles and other features of the dog.
This pug dog purse is made from polar fleece, a vintage tie, cotton lining, and red piping detailing both inside and out. The back of the purse features the "LP" leather tag with an easy-to-reach pocket for a cell phone. Inside the purse, the liner has three pockets. The clasp of the purse, made from the tie, is a magnetic "button" for simple and fast closure. The handle of the purse is made from the tie as well, with double top-stitched ends reinforced inside for sturdy use.

Porcelain piggy bank.
written by Julie R. Neidlinger 0 comments link this post
This porcelain piggy bank was inked free-hand with no pattern, then hand-painted with oil paints.
A plastic stopper on the underside allows you to remove your money without destroying a perfectly good pig.
Design work is original and unique, hand signed on the bottom.
This pig is small, about 4" X 3" X 3", and the only one of its kind! (He, uh, also comes with a few quarters inside. Quarters do not come out the bottom hole.)
See details: detail 1, detail 2, detail3.

Horse in Relief
written by Julie R. Neidlinger 0 comments link this post
This acrylic painting uses reflective and metallic acrylic paints to create a shimmery surface. Through the use of scratching with found objects and scrubbing the damp surface with rough material, both literal and visual texture are also noticeable from a distance and close up.
The idea is one of a relief carving or image of a horse, vaguely emerging from the background.
