Being fed.
written by Julie R. Neidlinger 0 comments link this postAmerican Christians are always looking for their Jesus I.V.
"I attended Saddleback for a little over 2 years. I left because I wasn't being fed" goes a comment by James on this post, describing why he left Rick Warren's church.
So much feeding.
"Sometimes, your fellow church members are glad to see the gluttons go," I commented, though my brief and pithy (I thought) response was later mangled into excessively worded responses.
The rest of the comments section soon delved into this topic, that of Christians who whine about whether or not they're "fed" with a few comments pointing out that we are drowning in an abundance of books, teaching and other materials. For us to say "I'm not being fed" is an affront to Christians in other countries with so little at their disposal who are experiencing an exploding and growing church.
But I'm still stuck on the that comment, one I've heard many times when people leave a church in a huff. "I just wasn't being fed."
Where did any of us get the idea that another human would feed us? That our Christian walk would be less a walk and more a wheelchair with an I.V. attached for continual feeding?
Fasting is both a literal and symbolic command in the Bible.
Gluttony is a sin almost beyond measure when applied to more than just literal food. It's a lifestyle of expecting and taking and not serving and sacrificing and giving.
Is that all the church has become, a place to sit back, open up, and "eat"?
"I wasn't being fed."
Well, then. Do go on and leave. Go find a Jesus supermarket or buffet and get comfy.
