I noticed a tab at Chris L.'s blog denoting a page dedicated to book recommendations. Check out his suggestions.

If you have such a page on your blog or site, let me know, and I'll link to it.

written by Julie R. Neidlinger      0 comments      link this post

Pastor Dave [previously mentioned here] had promised me a book list back in February, during the missions trip in Nicaragua. He sent the list quite a while back, but, in keeping with my regular, speedy reaction, I'm just posting it now.

3. There is more! - Randy Clark; Global Awakening
4. A Muslim's Heart - Dr. Edward J. Hoskins; Dawsonmedia
5. Heaven - Randy Alcorn; Eternal Perspective Ministries
6. Surprised by the power of the Spirit - Jack Deere; Zondervan
7. Surprised by the voice of God - Jack Deere; Zondervan
8. Fire Within - Dubay; Ignatius Press
9. After God's Own Heart - Mike Bickle; Charisma House
10. God's Passion His Glory - John Piper; Crossway Books
11. Fundamentals of the Faith - Peter Kreft; Ignatius Press
12. Systematic Theology - Wayne Grudem; Zondervan

Christianity Today's "Book Awards 2007."

written by Julie R. Neidlinger      0 comments      link this post

I love magazines that have a yearly "book" issue. I'm always in the mood for book lists. The June 2007 issue of Christianity Today is just such an issue, and I thought I'd put up their recommendations for the benefit of all interested. The top book in each list is the "winner" while the book(s) listed next received an "award of merit."

Apologetics/Evangelism

Biblical Studies

Christianity and Culture

Christian Living

The Church/Pastoral Leadership

Fiction

History/Biography

Missions/Global Affairs

Spirituality

Theology/Ethics

Book lists.

written by Julie R. Neidlinger      2 comments      link this post

Some people, upon meeting another person, ask for a business card or a phone number or a restaurant recommendation. I, if I sense I'm dealing with a real reader who won't suggest Danielle Steele, ask for a book list.

"Email me a book list," I'll say. I consider it an honor if they'll take the time to suggest reading material.

You'd be surprised how many people don't take me up on this. I'd be happy to recommend some favorite books. It's like when, after meeting someone, you send them a CD of music you like. It's a way of furthering the introduction. What we read and listen to is extremely revealing.

I am getting, in the near future (if both people are true to their word), not one but TWO book lists. Can you believe my good fortune? I just got back from Nicaragua, and it is from that trip that these book lists should emerge. I also managed to glean/steal a short list from Cecil.

Cecil is with the NRN, and lives in Nicaragua for lengths of time, helping coordinate things for all the groups that come down. He says a lot of things, and asks about twice that. I'm always doing creepy things like furtively reading over his shoulder and writing down the names of books he's reading or things he's jotted down in his notebook. Here are the books I noted, in case you were curious and as hungry for a book list as I always am:

How about you? Suggestions?

Books next on my list to read, which I have sitting by my bed, waiting:
