Before you play the game.

I certainly didn't do any of those three things. I went ahead and started blogging.
I didn't know the rules, and the rules of blogging are fluid and changed, anyway.
I didn't know the stakes, and learned some things the very hard way.
I don't know the quitting time.

Rules...in blogging, I think it's best to make your own rules. Look at all the cookie-cutter political blog sites out there as an example of how NOT to produce content people want to read. I think you've got a remarkably unique weblog, one I enjoy reading immensely. Being unique is one of the goal I had in starting mine, too.
Stakes...I know what you mean. I once got bullied by a prominent North Dakota Democrat and his attorney because they didn't like what I said on my site. They didn't have any legal basis to challenge me, and went silent as soon as I pointed out that they were just trying to scare me. It was an unpleasant situation, though.
Quitting...I suppose one would quit blogging when one runs out of things to say, or when people stop finding one's material worth reading. I doubt either will apply to the Lone Prairie blog, as I'm always pleased to visit.

I agree with Clint wholeheartedly, your blog is uniquely awesome!
Personally, I've found that a blog full of brutally honest thoughts and musings, direct reflections of whatever is going on inside one's head and heart-from the silly to the serious- is inadvertantly a great way to separate friend from foe.
Plus, once I realized that some people will always dislike what I espouse, and decided to keep writing and sharing anyway, well, I also then realized that separating friend from foe can be a very good thing.
