My Global Warming statement of faith.
written by Julie R. Neidlinger 6 comments link this post- I believe there is a globe.
- I believe there are areas of the globe that can get fairly warm.
- I believe more money, resources, and fossil fuel energy have been expended on educating the entire globe on its demise than can ever be recouped by the newly educated changing their lives.
- I believe most people show up to a global warming event to buy T-shirts and to see a celebrity.
- I believe the very nature of a celebrity lifestyle negates any attempt at them having anything but a negative effect on global warming, since they waste more energy and resources per-person than the normal bad rest of us.
- I believe the Golden Globe awards are a waste, too.
- I feel bad for the polar bears, too.
- I believe a couple of hundred years of data for a likely old globe is akin to pricking your finger to determine what ails ye.
- I believe people should speak using phrases like "ails ye" because it sounds like a pirate.
- Pirates, and pirate-themed stuff, are hot right now.
- Which brings us right back to global warming. It's a vicious circle, like the globe itself.
- I believe there is a globe...

Indeed it is, as this testifies.

Heavy D, your internet finding skills continue to amaze me. You must have a URL ready for any topic.
I'm impressed.

Actually we have ice cores dating back at least 400,000 years which give us a record of global climate.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ice_cores
Furthermore we can use the ice cores to track the amounts of CFC's, chlorocarbons, and bromocarbons which have been dumped into the atmosphere. Mind you I am referring to those which are not naturally occurring. While I would agree with you that global warming is a scare tactic being used to manipulate public opinion I would posit that global warming is indeed happening. The thing they never tell you on the news, though, is that the melting ice sheets will desalinate the ocean water which will inevitably lead to another ice age. It is a geologic certainty that we are heading towards another glaciation. In the words of Thom Yorke:
Ice age coming
Ice age coming
Let me hear both sides
Let me hear both sides
Let me hear both
Ice age coming
Ice age coming
Throw it on the fire
Throw it on the fire
Throw it on the

1. This post is meant to be funny.
2. I've noticed Global Warmers take any mention of it anywhere in any context as very serious.
3. Then they preach a little.
4. Actually, a lot.
5. I have a policy about people posting song lyrics in comment sections(see this post's comments section to read it) and it mainly involves the words "lame", "annoying." Nothing personal. Just lyrics of someone else are...annoying.
All jest aside, I don't put much stock in Wikipedia science entries. It seems obvious, however, that the industrial age would usher in more non-naturally occurring CFCs, etc. How old is the industrial age? Then that is the amount of data we have on how the industrial age has affected the climate. It's not much data.
Here's the thing that will really turn you off: I'm one of those Christians who doesn't see a doomsday scenario of ice-ages and such that will wipe out or seriously decimate the globe. Call me crazy. I don't mind.

I laughed it was funny. Sorry about the lyrics though didn't read EULA doh! I thought it was pertinent lyric as radiohead didn't participate in the Live Earth BS and it seemed to get to the heart of the matter. Anyways reading EULA... Point is that we have a very good idea about what the past climate has been like.

What we don't know is what exactly the effects of industrial pollution are. We know they destroy ozone. So knowing that I believe it is a tad irresponsible to just go on pumping it into the atmosphere when we really don't understand the long term consequences yet. Personally I find the whole thing hilarious because as I said before we are heading towards another ice age. I don't really think an ice age is a doomsday senario. Our ancestors survived several ice ages with stone tools and fire so we should be ok. Of course there will be a record number of Darwin awards being handed out. If I read St. John right you have a lot of other doomsday senarios to worry or not worry about depending on if you're pre-trib or not.
