Like bees.
written by Julie R. Neidlinger 1 comments link this postThis is a busy world.
It has never made sense to me.
Should I make myself busier so that it does?
I always thought of myself as busy, in my own way, but I am starting to realize, the older I get, that I am not.
I used to think that someone somewhere had to be busy or nothing would get done, and I was thankful for those that did it. That survival counted on busyness. I am starting to wonder if it wouldn’t be better if less got done, and if our busyness isn't killing our chances of survival. Whatever theory I could come up with is of no use, however.
This is a busy world.
That is our nature, and that is what we’ve made it.
It’s spinning too fast, faster than its orbit. Its inhabitants are running on the wheel and churning it up.
It buzzes and hums and whirs, like a sharp-edged fan blade. To get on, I’d have to match its speed and make the leap. Trying anything else will only get me hurt. I’d just as soon not bother. But it makes a lot of noise and is difficult to ignore.
I always considered myself busy and then, when I realized I was still not in pace with others, I assumed I was lazy. I no longer believe that. I just never took the leap on that spinning machine and everyone is rushing by. Of course I seem lazy. It looks as if I am standing still.
I am not standing still.
I will never understand what it is to be busy, though I thought I would.
This is a busy world.
Full of busy people.
And they are all to busy for people like me.

I knew if I searched long enough I’d find it. So here it is.
“The meaning of life is—creative love. Loving creatively.
… Not love as an inner feeling, as a private sentimental emotion, but love as a dynamic power moving out into the world and doing something original…
Loving creatively. In business and in life it means the creative building of new structures, new relationships, and new solutions, new possibilities for our world that are rooted in love, a concern for the dignity and integrity and value of others in this life. This is the bedrock, the foundation on which any meaningful life must be built.. It runs through the proclamations of the great religious traditions. It defines the lives of saints. It’s the attractive force within the scope of any genuine secular heroism. This is the absolute standard against which the relativities of our lives must be measured.
…From a religious perspective, the deep appropriateness of this is rooted in that ultimate performance, which is the creation and ongoing maintenance of our universe, with all its cosmic splendor. Our creative performances are then to be thought of as reflections of the love that brought us into being.”
