A pause.
Sometimes when I draw, I concentrate on what isn't there, the negative space, to learn more about the object than drawing the actual object itself. Sometimes when I paint, I fill in the shadows first, revealing the light source and all that the light strikes, never drawing the light itself. Sometimes when I'm quiet, I finally understand, in the silence, what I've been hearing all along. Sometimes when I force myself to stand still, I understand the current I've been caught up in and finally learn its name.
A pause.
It's stopping to know what motion feels like.
It's silence to understand the noise.
It's shadows to learn about the light.
It's negative space revealing the true object.
White space.
