Helpful life tip: Drive-by mailing is safe and legal. And beneficial. And good to do.
written by Julie R. Neidlinger 5 comments link this postI'm going to spend the rest of the night with a pile of cards and stationery that have been growing stagnant in my desk. I'm going to write a letter to all my old friends in my trusty old address book.*
A genuine drive-by mailing.
You should do this sometime. You should do this because it shows you care. And if you do it, send me one because I like getting letters that aren't addressed to "Miss Wulie R. Neidlinger" or "Ms. Julie Reidlinger."
This project is beneficial on many levels, including the fact that it supports the local post office here in Hampden which is always in danger of being closed. Stamp sales will skyrocket tomorrow!
Moral of the story: I'm going to use my favorite origami stationery first.

*I will also be watching "Pride and Prejudice" and swooning whenever Mr. Darcy walks on camera.

If that "send me one" applies to complete strangers who happen by here, I'll send you a note to thank you for this capital idea. (As a taxpayer who pays my salary, you might be less than thrilled that I've spent quite a bit of office time enjoying your blog in recent days.... Congress is in recess--that's my excuse.) Sometimes, with work pressures, it's too easy to fall into the trap of being efficient with people--and that's unhealthy to both parties. Thanks for the reminder that we're all desperate to be wanted and need to spend more time on others.

One question: (I'm serious this time) Which version are you watching?
By Will, at 11/4/07 21:13
Hi Jared -- glad to get a new reader...even on "taxpayer time." I have this other friend on taxpayer time who, uh, reads this blog a bit.
(Hi Nome.)
And Will...the six-hour version. I won't get through it all, but I have seen in upwards of 200 times so I know which parts to fast-forward to.

Ha. Thanks for the shout out.
Do you have my Bismarck address???
(If not, you could always send a TEXT instead. Sigh.)

Thanks for the greeting.
One of my coworkers just spent twenty minutes on YouTube looking for a particular Bruce Lee clip, so I'm declaring myself in full compliance with congressional Internet policies to visit Lone Prairie during the workday for some sanity. And sanity in the House of Representatives, much like letters from old friends, can be in short supply.
