Blogathon 2006: The final pre-event post.
written by Julie R. Neidlinger 1 comments link this postBlogathon 2006 starts bright and early tomorrow here at Lone Prairie - 8 a.m. to be exact - and yes, I am still making sets and costumes and am in a mild creative panic.
A few things on my mind:
- I hope my ISP doesn't take the day to die or do routine maintenance effectively preventing me from successfully completing the event. That would be a real downer.
- Tomorrow is supposed to be killer hot and we don't have air conditioning upstairs where I will spend the 24 hours of the Blogathon. Normally I don't run the computers or equipment during the daytime hours during July and August to help keep the sweltering heat from being a disaster. However, tomorrow I will have no choice and though I will use my window fans and shades as I normally do, it still looks to be very hot and nasty.
- Writers' block would be a really bad thing.
- I hope I have enough props on hand to make this challenging effort a fun time for my readers.
- I'm having a momentary creative panic which will last until Sunday morning at 8:05. I'm not kidding.
- Firefox is crashing while using Blogger and I may have to revert to I.E. Not happy.
- Sponsors, you're gaurenteed something free. You'll also get in on a drawing. If you are an anonymous sponsor and choose to remain that way, I can't send you anything. That's OK if you're OK with that. However, if you want to get in on the freebies and the drawing, you'll have to email me your contact info at some point.
- It's not too late to sponsor me, by the way. You can still sign up to sponsor me tomorrow and even for a limited time (48 hours) after the Blogathon is over. So, if you like what you see and want to get in on the action, it's not too late.
- Comments will remain open for all the "chapters" in the Bob story I'll be telling this year. Like last year, readers are welcome to leave suggestions, tell me to get my act together, or give me a virtual pat on the back (particularly around 3 a.m. when I'm going to need it and will be heading for the chocolate ice-cream). What's new this year is that I am going to be throwing in all kinds of shout-outs to authors, film, history, etc. in relation to the particular genre of story that I am telling. Readers are encouraged to leave a comment if they pick up on one or more of these references in the dialogue, story or illustrative image. I'm going to have some obvious ones, obviously, but there should be a few trickier ones. Fans of this particular genre should see it as a kind of "where's Waldo" of references.
