Blogathon 2006: Chapter 9.

Back in his room, after having finished his meal in peace, Dove doused the lamp almost immediately. This was a town where you didn't stand in front of a lit window without a cemetery plot picked out. Unease makes a rotten bedmate, even with all the experience he had with her.
Dove looked out of the window of his hotel room. Across the street was the general store and next to it, though he was dismayed to even have to consider it, was a building with a slanted front roof, an option. Sergio's had a sagging deck running across the front and though he'd not trust his life on it by the looks of it from his window, he might have to do just that should a six-shooter be pointed his way by a surprise visitor. It was a long leap from the deck to the slanting roof, but it was an option. The hotel deck was high enough up that he had an excellent vantage point of the main street of the town. These were all things he felt better knowing.
Dove leaned back from the window, the darkness of the room swallowing him up.
Solitaire was up to something and Dove needed to keep his options open. Passing through had turned into just another stop on the warrior's path. He was a lonely man and lonely men had lonesome gods. One of these gods happened to be a fine sense for injustice and Crossfire Trail had plenty of that in spades. Too many men had left a wake of widows and orphans in their trail to just be passing through.
He took out his Colt .45 and began checking on his ammunition. Before things went down, he'd need to go find someone to set him straight on the story of Crossfire Trails. He had a pretty good idea where that someone might be found.

Seems to me, Lily's been in town for a long while? For the cost of a couple whiskeys, she might have be able to fill in the blanks?

It might be a good idea to stuff some bedding under the covers and sleep in a chair in a dark corner of the room. Solitare seems like a back-shooter for sure!
