Blogathon 2006: A brief pause.

Though cruel of me to take a pause just when all the mayhem is about to begin, I must. I must inject Diet Coke and chocolate into my veins if I am to keep going.

For your reading pleasure, while I am taking this break, I will share a few interesting facts for you to challenge your knowledge of western lore:

1. Louis L'Amour is highly honored (I think) in this Blogathon series. You'll find the titles of most of his books, many of his characters and more in nearly every chapter. There is one chapter in which Bob Dove actually uses four L'Amour titles in one bit of spoken dialogue. Can you find it? How about some of the other titles (there's a reason for some of that melodramatic dialogue - it's all about getting the titles in).

2. The movies I'm getting my quotes from include Lonesome Dove, The Wild Bunch, various John Wayne quotes, and Silverado. There will be more, but in the meantime, can you find those quotes?

3. Can you pick up on the play on names I'm having too much fun with, both in character's names, the names of some of the businesses (look at the signs), and in twists of the dialogue? See what connections you can come up with in regards to popular western fiction, authors, and history. For example, Solitaire wasn't a random name choice. See what you can come up with.

4. There's some color symbolism going on here. Granted, the images are shot in sepia tone, but the symbolism is there both visually (you can pick up on it) and through what's written and spoken. Can you find any of that?

It's 2:00 a.m. (in the morning, no less) and you're asking me to pick up on symbolism?

You could drop an anvil on my head right now and I wouldn't detect the symbolism.

"Silverado" - one of my all-time favorite movies, western or otherwise.

Well, I have to write this stuff, so yes, it's not to early/late an hour to...oh, really. At this point it's just the 'thoners that are awake. This is more for the people who are going to get all that rest and can wake up bright and early in the morning and see what we've done.

Rest.

Pillow.

Weeping.

I really WANT my brain to process that information. I do. Not working. *blank stare* And we're back.....

OH - keep up the good work!!! You can SO do this. Heck, you ARE doing this. Rah!
