Blog family tree.
written by Julie R. Neidlinger 3 comments link this postSo I finally got around to taking part in the Blog Family Tree.
In reading of how other bloggers were inspired to blog by what seems to be mostly political blogs, I finally realized something very important: It's all Wil Wheaton's fault.
It's his fault I write about a lot of nothing. Not that he does. But I'm just saying that perhaps if I'd read Michelle Malkin's or Andrew Sullivan's blog first, I would have considered blogs vehicles of weighty issues instead of, eh, what you get here now.
::Though I'm kind of glad I didn't read those blogs first because frankly, policy and politics day in and day out is the equivalent of the Brain Bug in Starship Troopers.::
Wil Wheaton's blog is the first blog I ever read. And so he is my "blog father" as I guess it's referred to.
No serious political blog, no contemporary issues blog - nope. Just Wil Wheaton talking about how William Shatner was a Big F-ing Moron, Star Trek conventions and life with his family. His blog has changed a bit, but mine, unfortunately, has stayed pretty much insubstantial.
I had just finished watching my worn out tape of the five top TNG episodes (hosted by Jonathan Frakes) and I found myself wondering what ever had happened to Wil Wheaton.
"I wonder what happened to Wil Wheaton?" I wondered.
I was never in the "I hate Wesley Crusher" club, so I genuinely was curious. Onto the internet I went, I found his hilarious and intriguing blog, wondered what the heck this blogger thing he kept talking about was, and before you know it...I was blogging.
I even have an early copy of his "Dancing Barefoot" book, when he and his wife were sending them out by hand, I think.
So thanks to Wil, here I am. And if any of you readers hated Wesley, I'M NOT TALKING TO YOU ANYMORE.
::Anyone out there inspired to blog by my weak attempts? Or maybe you haven't taken part in the Blog Family Tree. Get to it!::

Oh, very cool...thanks for bringing this to our attention! I've added the Gazette's branch to the tree, and posted about it to try to extend the meme.
For me, it was Lileks...but I'll admit that the first thing I did was order Wil's book on blogging immediately after getting started. I actually read it during a ski trip to Santa Fe! (How sad is that?)

So that's old Wes Crusher! I didn't connect the dots. I always thought he was a hunk, for a geeky skinny kid. They're the best kind.
Your blog is one of the more interesting especially among women writers. It's readable. It's original and not overly loaded with links to other's people's stuff. And it's usually about something no one else I know is talking about.

Interesting. I didn't know a Blog Family Tree existed. I can't say that I have a Blog-parent. I started my website when I was in high school. It was mostly embarrassing photos of my friends interspersed with rants about things that made me really angry. I guess I was blogging before I ever heard the word "blog". I found your blog while looking for North Dakota related blogs. I grew up in Max, now live in Illinois.
