    Where.

written by Julie R. Neidlinger      0 comments      link this post

Location is everything. Lone Prairie Art Works is located a few miles from Hampden, North Dakota. North Dakota is fine and lovely, despite what you may have heard. And what you may have heard is that North Dakota is in the middle of nowhere. This is not true. It is in the middle of North America.

    What.

The what is actually a who. Lone Prairie Art Works is me, Julie R. Neidlinger. I specialize in creating unique and creative products. It's just me, a staff of one, working away at each project one at a time. Everything is handmade, and everything is sent out from the small local post office in Hampden. There's no automation, no machines, no staff. From beginning to end, I handle your order, create it, correspond with you, and send it out. If you get irate and angry with Lone Prairie Art Works, you're actually making me cry, directly. Not the staff. Me. Cry.

Some of the stuff I do includes:

    When.

The right timing. I started Lone Prairie Art Works right after college, in 1997. A few years later I registered the name with the state of North Dakota. Lone Prairie Art Works first had its web presence in 1999, a presence that has since changed in look and content over the years as I familiarized myself with web site design and entered the ebb and flow of the fast-changing internet. I'm a long way from the 50 year mark, but not doing too badly for not having solicited venture capital.

    Why.

written by Julie R. Neidlinger      0 comments      link this post

Mission statements and the truth. I draw, paint and create what I know, what interests me. I'm not trying to make social or political statements. I create from the place that I am at, geographically and personally. I make stuff that I like. And as I get older, I like to make things that serve a dual purpose (i.e. can be used and have a function). I like to have an answer to the question "what's it do?" or "what do you do with it?" because I think it's a valid question, even if the answer is simply: enjoy its beauty. It's not a deep mission statement, but it's very real and approachable. I'm no Picasso. Which is good, because he wasn't a very nice man.

    The Truth:
There are three kinds of people in the world:
    those who can't stand Picasso,
    those who can't stand Raphael,
and those who've never heard of either of them.

    Press-ready bio.

written by Julie R. Neidlinger      0 comments      link this post

    Julie R. Neidlinger (b. 1974)

Julie R. Neidlinger's creative career began as a child, with a never-ending love for drawing and writing and making things. No art classes were offered at her elementary or high school in Starkweather, North Dakota, though she had the opportunity to take part in summer art classes and the occasional artist-in-residence that visited the school.

One such artist-in-residence that had an impact on her, and encourage her as a young student, was Bicky Bender. During her junior year in high school, Julie decided to attend Minnesota State University - Moorhead to pursue a degree in art.

First, though, there was a detour. Her freshman year of college was spent in the heart of Minneapolis at North Central University. The following four years found her immersed in the art and art history departments at Minnesota State University - Moorhead.

Following graduation, she moved back to the family farm and still pursued her art and writing, but supplemented her career with a wide variety of jobs ranging from photographer to journalist to art teacher. She formed her creative company Lone Prairie Art Works in the late 1990's, gradually adding name and branding to it as it grew.

She continues to specialize in the creative fields, which include writing, drawing, and music, all from the home-base of a North Dakota farm.

If you're looking for a shorter bio... you can thank my friend Corrine, a published author, who wrote this bio because I found it difficult to write about myself. She's been very generous in describing me.

Julie R. Neidlinger is both a writer and a visual artist. She writes, she paints, and she photographs -- but no matter what medium she chooses, she excels in finding and describing the universal themes that connect North Dakota to the larger, outside world. She has written for a small newspaper, but she is probably best known as the voice of Lone Prairie, a hugely popular website and blog that ranked as one of the top 400 blogs in the "TruthLaidBear" ecosystem at one time. She lives on a farm near Hampden, N.D., and she has a bachelor's degree in fine arts from Moorhead State University.
