public meeting
Last night at the Hampden Senior Center, the Ramsey County Commission held a public meeting. The attendance was good, although the room was not filled to capacity.
Each commissioner spoke briefly on the committees and other projects that they were responsible for. Comissioner Joe Belford was absent from the meeting.
Discussion on the Devils Lake situation was lively, as was the possibility of a proposed ditch to help keep Stump Lake residents from experiencing what Devils Lake residents have experienced for over a decade. The catch is that the cost for the project is to be shared over the entire Devils Lake basin. Ramsey County is completely in the basin and makes up the largest part. Those in attendance weren't wild on the idea of funding another project that they aren't going to benefit from to keep residents in another area from the losses they have had to absorb already.
All in all, a good meeting and a chance for the area to see their commissioners in action.

souvenirs, parade, and history
Another Centennial Celebration meeting was held, and it looks like events are falling into place.
Souvenirs: There will only be 100 Hampden blankets ordered. All blankets must be pre-ordered and pre-paid if you want one of these very attractive souvenirs. You may order them via this website or by contacting Dawn Hamre directly.
For those of you in questions...yes! There will be T-shirts for the event. They will be available at the celebration for you to purchase. If you are unable to come to the celebration but still want a T-shirt, visit our store for more information.
There may be other items for sale at the event and online in the future, including a DVD of old and new Hampden footage. Stay tuned for more information as that project continues to progress. We may also offer a CD of historical photos, many of which are used in the history book, but due to limited space not all could be. This is a great way to hang onto images and use them in your own documents or to reminisce.
Parade: Be sure to check out the parade information now available on this site. You can print out parade entry forms to mail, as well as help get the word out about the event by printing a poster to display. All help is appreciated.
History Book: The history book is in production. There will be a very limited amount available for those who did not pre-order, so if you haven't done so, you need to take care of that now. They will be on a first come, first serve basis.
If your family was unable to get your family history to us in time, you are welcome to make 300 copies of your history and leave them at "headquarters" (the senior center) during the centennial. They will be available as inserts for those picking up their history books at that time.
History: Any photos of old houses or residences are still welcome, as a history is being compiled for those who are interested. Any footage of Hampden, from reel film to VHS to digital video, are needed. Do not cut or otherwise edit the reel film. We will take care of that here. For more information, call 701-868-3888 and ask for Julie.
