Snow accumulation.

February 7, 2010

For the second or third time, we have a “blizzard to end all blizzards!!” on the East coast.
I get a little tired hearing about the winter storms on the East coast, in which photos like this make the news. The main story isn’t the storm, really, but the fact that it’s happening in a more [...]

Ants and jars of clay.

September 9, 2009

I walk with my head down, usually, and not up.
This has little to do with my inner self-esteem and more to do with the desire to keep chewed gum off of my shoes. If you look down while walking on the south sidewalk, nearing the corner of Rosser and 3rd heading west here in Bismarck, [...]

Creating creation.

August 18, 2009

Walking back from work today, I decided to harass a tunnel spider who had built a web in the evergreen bush along the sidewalk. Though an unusual activity for me — for I despise spiders — I couldn’t stop myself. After several minutes of mind games, coaxing the spider out of its lair with faint [...]

Lake Crescent.

August 5, 2009

Several years ago I found myself driving around Lake Crescent on highway 101 in Washington state, heading towards Port Angeles with my friend Sabine sleeping in the rental car next to me. The evening was falling fast and it was late September; the lake was still and deep blue and the tourists were absent. As [...]

I vote no for summer.

July 2, 2009

While I understand people seem to like summer, I can’t say I agree.

Kids are out of school. I want them back in school and not out and about, annoying me.
Bugs.
People are infatuated with noisy get-togethers at all hours of the day and night in their yards when I am trying to nap/sleep.
Sun, sunburn, sunblock.
Hot.
Some summer [...]

Sensitive plant.

May 7, 2009

I bought three little plant growing kits from the Target $1 section several weeks ago: basil, chives, and a “sensitive plant.”
They all three sit on my kitchen window sill, growing like crazy, and soon in need of being transplanted to a larger pot.
I can’t stop harassing the sensitive plant. It’s a plant with unique fern-like [...]

Aquarium photos.

December 11, 2008

Back in May I, along with my parents, went on a trip with my sister and her family to the Destination Imagination Global Finals in Knoxville, Tennessee. While there, we went to a few tourist sites, one of which included a really fabulous aquarium in Pigeon Forge. I had forgotten about all the photos I [...]

El blizzardo.

November 6, 2008

The first blizzard of the season always amazes me in that I would think, just a week and a half from 60-degree weather and brilliant sun, that dark cold blinding snow would seem so foreign as to make me unable to function.
Instead, as I stepped out of the door at work, I felt like I [...]

From what you were before.

September 24, 2008

I was out for a walk late this afternoon. I’ve had a few days that haven’t been so great for a variety of reasons, and needed to clear my head.
On the ground near the edge of the walking path, amidst all the fallen leaves of faded green and yellow and light orange, were two red [...]

Trust.

September 12, 2008

I was sitting in the coffee shop, trying very hard to unobtrusively eavesdrop on two men at a table in the corner. Their conversation was fascinating (what I could hear of it).
“…obviously, horses are naturally terrified of predators like mountain lions. A mountain lion know where to attack an animal like a horse. It goes [...]
