My trusty Richeson #9.

I've had it since college.

A Richeson series 9166 #9 paintbrush. And, because I torture my art supplies with endless grinding and abuse on the paper, palette, and throwing them across the room in a typical fit of anger, it's in even better worse shape.

The acrylic bristles are frayed and splayed out, and it's great for textured painting in layers. The bristles have their own mind. Streaks. Wisps. Wonderful.

The handle is covered in paint and scratches and the red finish is slowly chipping off.

Here are a few paintings ("K", Nicaraguan Girl 01) I've just finished using the #9 on; you can see the brush marks criss-crossing through the layers.

Bless you, #9.

You let me be Velasquez without being Velasquez.
