Dad called me on my cell phone.
“Any news?” I asked him.
“I just called to whine.”
“What happened?”
“I just spent a half hour looking for a piece of duct tape,” he said.
“Huh,” I said. “So, how’s spring planting going? Getting things ready?”
“I should think that would be obvious. I’m working on machinery. Why else would I be needing duct tape?”
Farm life.

Dear Julie: I really get the chuckle over the duct tape. I always purchase the largest rolls I can find, usually at costco. I have never used it on a duct! I have used it to hem a skirt when part of the hem goes, I keep a roll in my purse. I am not kidding! I used duct tape to fix a broken sole on a sandal and believe me in pinch it works. I also have used it to keep my pic line on when I showered, I am a breast cancer fighter now, and duct tape should always be in your chemokit, it can help you keep a wig on in the wind. And it’s great in the kitchen, I’ve used to keep handles steady on my favorit frying pan (yes I know that is really cheap), but once you seasoned your favorite frying pan, you just don’t want to give it up. I gave my brother my Mazda when I moved back to Red Lake from London Ontario and he proudly told that he fixed the hole in the gas tank with duct tape, he also keeps it handy usually in his glove compartment. I love that you can buy duct tape in all colours! One day I think I will work on a duct tape chair, but I will make it pretty and call it artwork. Wish me luck. Pearl Neidlinger
