At this week’s meeting, the safety briefing included some of the information provided in the monthly safety newsletter. These incidents, and others, were part of a section entitled “Mishaps”, which made me realize that if I ever do anything stupid at an official event, it’s going to end up, quite possibly, in the safety briefing of some future meeting.
I will admit that three of the mishaps made me snicker:
- While roasting hot dogs over an open flame in a fire drum, a member backed into the drum that resulted in a leg burn.
- A student jumped over a shrub, unable to see the other side, and collided with a parked car.
- Vehicle moving on a public highway was struck by a wild turkey.
It was the last one, of course, that brought a few comments from some of the members present.
I can see the usefulness of reporting mishaps in parking an airplane, perhaps, but being struck by a wild turkey? What are you supposed to do about that?
Stop visiting the liquor store, I guess.
