What better way to close out your year than with a delicious hot drink?
OK — there are a number of other things you could do close the year…pay bills, hide from creditors, shovel the driveway, put away Christmas decorations…
I think I’ll go with “sitting around doing very little and enjoying a hot, chocolaty drink.” While not a huge fan of coffee, I’m able to manage it as long as its close friend Mr. Chocolate is in the house.
Here are a few recipes that fit the bill, ready for you to try. If you have a favorite of your own, by all means, leave it in the comments section.
Affogato
Put a scoop of vanilla ice cream in a heatproof glass or cup. Pour a shot of espresso over it. Top with whipped cream and dust with cocoa powder. Coffee will also work. To add chocolate, melt it in the hot coffee or espresso, blending well, before adding to ice cream.
Mocha
4 oz. bittersweet chocolate
1 T fine sugar
1 1/4 C milk
2 C freshly brewed strong coffee
1/2 C whipped cream
Put the chocolate, sugar and milk in a saucepan and heat. Stir constantly until melted and smooth. Bring to a boil, whisking constantly. Remove from heat and whisk in the coffee. Pour into cups and top with whipped cream.
