At the bakery, I’ve been given the opportunity to deface their walls with my paintings.
I already defaced the walls there earlier, as you may recall.
Anyway, I’ve been struggling to get everything done that is on my list of must-do’s, and painting has been at the bottom of the list. This is a very sad thing for someone who is supposed to be some kind of an artist. Finishing a painting is akin to the feeling of finishing a run or some other kind of hard-fought battle.
It’s a good feeling.
It doesn’t happen unless I actually get it together and paint.
Not painting is not good.
So tonight, I decided on something with coffee-related imagery.
The painting is a bit washed out in this photo. You can see a slightly better version of it here. I had to set up a cup and saucer, along with a spoon (which did not want to stay put) under a flashlight to serve as my still life guide.
There is one painting already up in the bakery, featuring a cake. If you find yourself in Bismarck, stop in at the Patisserie on Fourth and get some food and check out the paintings.
Please do not eat the paintings.
I do need to get a photo of that cake painting, though, since I also have them marked for sale in the bakery. Tonight, I finished the painting you see here, with my workspace now being in the main living area of my apartment since my unheated porch area can no longer serve as a studio. The easel is in the living room/office/dining room to stay, at least until next April or May.
I’m thinking of working on a painting of éclairs next.

Awesome! I should commission some works of art about coffee so I don’t spend so much on the real thing…except you’d charge more than the coffee. I’ll have to think about this.
