“You could answer your phone once in a while,” Naomi said. I was sitting in my vehicle in the Target parking lot, having just called her back after viewing my missed calls list.
“There several reasons why I did not answer my phone!” I said emphatically, gearing up for a momentous debate. I love creating lists and bullet points on the fly during conversation. “One: It’s winter and winter requires two-handed driving for safety. Two: Even if I was fool enough to remove one hand from the steering wheel, I can’t hear my phone anyway since the car heater is blowing full blast and drowns out the ring. And lastly: Let’s just say, in theory, that I was fool enough to remove my hand from the steering wheel and did, theoretically, hear the phone. It is HIGHLY DOUBTFUL that I’d be able to get my gloves off, reach into my coat, pull out the phone, and hit the send button in time to answer the call!” At this point, enjoying the heightened drama of the moment, I was all in a tither.
“Well, if you put it that way…” she said, laughing.
I take winter driving very seriously.
Very.
